About qaya
What is Qaya?
A static site platform for publishing curated data.
This is a personal project. I moderate r/onebag and maintain the community spreadsheet with travel bags, airline carry-on limits, and a compatibility matrix. Users struggled to filter data in the way they wanted, thus was born Qaya.
Finding reliable comparison data online is harder than it should be. Review sites bury information behind affiliate links. Manufacturer pages are designed to prevent comparison. Shared spreadsheets technically work, but filtering is limited, search is clumsy, and mobile use ranges from painful to impossible.
Qaya solves this for two groups of people:
If you are looking for data, you get a proper search and filter interface that works on any device. No accounts, no pop-ups, no algorithmic reordering.
If you maintain a dataset, you get a way to share it without building an application. Keep your data where it is. Qaya handles the interface.
Datasets
Each dataset is built from a curated data source covering a specific topic. Datasets are organized into collections for browsing.
Features
- Search and filtering - Full-text search, range sliders, checkboxes, multi-select chips, and threshold filters. All filters combine naturally, sync to the URL, and work on any device.
- Comparison - Select items and view them side by side. Sections are configurable per dataset and differences are highlighted automatically.
- Multiple views - Card grids with vertical, horizontal, and compact layouts. Sortable tables with configurable columns. Detail pages with full specifications.
- Presets - Pre-defined filter combinations for common use cases. Users can also create and save their own.
- Preferences - Unit switching between metric and imperial. Currency conversion. Light and dark themes. All preferences persist across sessions.
- Favorites - Save items to a shortlist that persists across visits. Stored only in your browser.
Data Sources
Data originates from sources maintained by independent curators, including Google Sheets, CSV files, and other structured formats.
The person maintaining the source data owns it. Qaya provides a read interface. When the source data is updated, the site is rebuilt to reflect the changes.
There are no sponsored entries, no paid placements, and no algorithmic ranking.
Found an error? Let me know through the feedback form or on r/qaya.
Privacy
This site does not use cookies or collect personal information. There are no ad networks and no tracking scripts. Preferences and favorites are stored in your browser's local storage and never leave your device. We do use Cloudflare analytics just to undertand how many visitors we get.
Host Your Dataset
If you maintain a public dataset and you are tired of telling people to filter column F in a read-only Google Sheet, and like what you see here, get in touch.
You keep full ownership of your data. There is no cost and no lock-in. Your source data remains your source of truth.
The onboarding process for external datasets is not yet in place. If you are interested, reach out through the feedback form or on r/qaya.
